Between 1910 and 1916 Huffman Prairie Flying Field was transformed into a training ground
for novice pilots. Later it became one the earliest military aviation fields and
was renamed Wilbur Wright Field.
In 1948 Wright Field was merged with neighboring Patterson Field to become
Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
Huffman Prairie still exists today because it is located in a flood plan prohibiting any
type of development.
